System parking - the Cologne parking guidance system
The parking guidance system tells you where and how many free parking spaces can be found in Cologne's city centre car parks. The city centre is divided into four areas/quarters for this purpose.
Each quarter has its own colour:
red: Dom/Rhein
blue: Neumarkt
green: Ringe
yellow: Deutz/Kalk
Information signs are located at many junctions and turnoffs so that a place to park may be found in the city centre as quickly as possible. These information signs should direct you to the car parks within a quarter as quickly as possible. They give you the direction, the quarter and the nearest car park.
The information signs, most of which can be found on the main arterial roads, will only give you the location of the car parks and not the number of free parking spaces. The signs within the city centre also display the actual number of free spaces in these car parks.
An attractive and environmentally friendly alternative to hunting for a parking space is to use a Park+Ride car park! In Cologne and its environs there are already more than 120 of these facilities with over 22,000 parking spaces.
You can download a brochure with information on this subject here. The brochure will help you to find the parking spaces and the Park+Ride car parks.
