The tax for the promotion and advancement of culture is basically 5 per cent of the amount paid by the guest for the accommodation including value added tax.
The Cologne City Council has approved the introduction of the tax as part of a package of measures aimed at addressing the city's budget deficit. The raised revenues will be allocated to culture, education and tourism.

We have set up a hotline and an email address for queries regarding the tax for the promotion and advancement of culture. The hotline will be staffed by people who have been specially trained to answer your questions on the new tax on Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 16 p.m, Wednesdays and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 12 a.m.
